Band Fantasies

All I’ve been listening to lately is the score from the Pirates of the Caribbean movies. They’re fun to listen to, which might sound weird, but hey, it’s true for me. In fact, I’m listening to the score right now! Often, while listening to the score during my hour-long commute to and from school, I imagine that I’m in an orchestra or high school band playing the score.

Sometimes I wish I was more involved with my high school or college music program. Whenever I see my sister play her flute, with the band or by herself, I’m reminded of how much fun it was in intermediate school to be part of a group creating music. Who cares if Waianae Intermediate’s band wasn’t huge or necessarily the best? I had a blast.

Once I turned 13, I had pretty much set myself up to pursue a future in the communications field. I didn’t hate it, and I still don’t, but it would’ve been nice having that other dimension of being in the high school or college band.

Typing up this blog reminds me of some videos I had posted on YouTube a while back of Waianae High School’s band. Here are two videos of the Pirates of the Caribbean medley they performed. (I guess my camera has a three-minute recording limit, since it stopped at the three-minute mark.) Not the best camerawork, I know… but that doesn’t matter. Listen to the music.
