Laura, her roommate Natasha, Natasha’s friend Annie and I went up to the North Shore on Sunday. I love how peaceful it is up there. =)

When I got to Laura and Natasha’s house, they were watching “Dirty Jobs with Mike Rowe,” much to my delight. I love that show. About 15 minutes later, Annie arrived with her SUV and our journey to the North Shore commenced.

Our first stop: Aoki’s for some shave ice. Mmm. I haven’t had shave ice in a long time so it was a treat. I ordered what’s called the Local Mix: mango, pineapple, and li hing mui. Anything with pineapple and I’m set! I just find it strange that the color of the pineapple syrup is blue. Hmm.

After chowing down on huli huli chicken (yum!), we went over to the North Shore Marketplace for coffee (they ordered some, I didn’t) and trinket browsing. There were some notable homemade lotions that smelled pretty good. While waiting outside for Annie and Natasha, Laura and I witnessed three little chicks looking for their mommy in the parking lot! Awww.

We then made our way to Laniakea Beach, known for sunbasking Hawaiian green turtles. Afterward, we went to Waimea Bay. I didn’t bring my swimsuit or spare clothes (genius) and am not that great of a swimmer, so I stayed on the shore and got my bottom half wet. After the sun had set, we went back to the North Shore Marketplace and ate dinner at Cholo’s. Laura, Natasha and I got burritos and I believe Annie got a tortilla dish.

All in all, it was fun times. And of course, I took pictures (with my iPhone)!

Today I finally got to ride TheBoat with Laura! I originally planned to try it last Wednesday but I was just too tired.

There was a surprisingly long line when we got to Aloha Tower. According to the security guard, Laura and I were numbers 180 and 181. We were worried we wouldn’t be able to board, but everyone managed to get on the boat. Uh, TheBoat.

It took an hour to get from Aloha Tower to Kalaeloa Harbor. Laura and I chatted along the way. A nice lady we were sitting next to noticed I had an iPhone and was nice enough to take a photo of us with it:

I like Laura’s pose and the lighting in this photo!

Summer so far has been a blast. Penelope, Laura and I spent Memorial Day weekend – our last weekend together – in the North Shore, at Shark’s Cove. We bought our snorkel gear a few days before and couldn’t wait to try it out… hence the new “Snorkel Silliness” photo album in my pics section. We then walked over to Sunset Beach… walking in the sand really is a workout. Fortunately, I enjoyed soaking up the sun. Also amused the other two when I crawled out of the water like a wet cat. Once we got back into town, Laura and I went to the annual Memorial Day lantern lighting ceremony at Ala Moana Beach Park, only to find that the ceremony was ending when we got there. We managed to get some pics of the lanterns in the water, though.

Like I said, it’s been a blast so far, especially since I got to chill with my roomies and hang out at the beach, something I should do more of.

We brought waterproof disposable cameras with us; I’ll try to get those pics up by the end of this weekend. In the meantime, here are some digital shots:
